How to Set-Up Zoom

Updated: Feb 28, 2021

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others,

interact, and enjoy group sessions of all kinds. It's the perfect software program for interactive yoga classes, allowing you to see and hear your teacher, to ask questions, and (if you like) to have your teacher be able to see you, your alignment and technique, and to give you custom instructions and adjustment to help you just as if you were in the studio!

Zoom is free, and is fast and easy to set up! Just follow these simple steps and you'll be ready to zoom:

  1. Click on this link to take you to the Zoom website: https://zoom.us/ent?zcid=2582

  2. Press the “sign-up its free” button on the top right corner of the screen.

  3. Enter your email address and press “sign up”.

  4. You will get an email that will contain an “activate account button”.

  5. Press “activate account button”, which will take you back to the zoom website.

  6. You will be asked to enter your name and create a password.

  7. A screen will pop up saying “invite your colleagues”. You can scroll down to the bottom and press the “skip this step” button at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  8. Congratulations! You now have an account!

Next: Download the Zoom App

  1. Go to https://zoom.us/download

  2. Click on the “download” button under “Zoom Client for Meetings.” This will download a file called Zoominstaller.exe.

  3. Open the Zoominstaller.exe file (which will now be stored in your downloads folder, or visible in the bottom bar of your internet browser).

  4. Zoom Installer will initialize.

  5. A pop-up will ask you if you want to ‘allow this app to make changes to your device’. Click yes and the program will install.

  6. Depending on what kind of computer you own, you will find your Zoom app in different places on your computer. For Windows, it should be accessible through your Start Menu (press the button in the very bottom left of your screen with the windows logo; scroll down until you find it). For Mac, it should be in your Applications folder (press the smiley face Finder button on the bottom left of your screen – you will see an Applications button on the left hand side; scroll down until you find it).

  7. You are now all set for your first Zoom Class!

There are lots of great videos you can search on YouTube on how to navigate a Zoom meeting, but honestly, it's pretty easy! We will send you an email 30 minutes prior to class with a link to class. Just click the link it it will automatically take you into class.

If you're new to the experience of online yoga, we highly recommend you give it a try! Time constraints are the most common reason why people don't make enough time for yoga or self healing, and learning to balance our time in a way which includes our own personal wellbeing is important. Tools like Zoom create the flexibility to fit our yoga in without ever having to get dressed or leave the house!
